One of the pros (or cons, depending on your life stage) of our townhouse is not having to deal with any yard work! Instead, our outdoor space is the deck outside of the kitchen and dining room, and until recently, it was just home to a few potted plants and the seating from our old patio. This spring I had the chance to make our deck functional and stylish with a few key pieces from At Home, and bring to life a whole new living space for the house! It’s prime time for alfresco dining and I need all the Vitamin D I can get so I’ll be spending lots of time enjoying this new little oasis. See what the deck looked like before and get all the details on the design below.
One of the most important pieces out here is the umbrella, which helps shade from the super strong direct sunlight throughout the entire afternoon! The outdoor umbrellas at At Home are so chic and affordable, and I’m in love with our scalloped number in white that matches the entire design.
When I saw the classic navy and white stripe I knew it would be the perfect foundation for the space. I knew this would be the perfect unifying element throughout the space, so I turned these built-in benches into a comfortable dining banquette with this bench cushion and these square seat cushions on the other side to fit the bench dimensions.
I recently featured this new Chilewich striped mat on my Instagram and I love how it grounds the seating area out here! It’s basically indestructible and perfect for outdoor spaces or places where rugs easily get dirty like entryways, mudrooms, or kitchens.
Along with these cute gold side tables, I added a white sling chair to create a vignette facing the old seating against house that would help buffer the views beyond the deck. Along with some boxwoods and a fiddle leaf fig, this little corner defined the middle of the deck along with the fun Moroccan-style lanterns.
It feels like such an oasis out here now, thanks to all of the great outdoor decor I found at At Home! With a few key potted plants and some string lights to add a soft glow at night, I have a feeling we are going to be spending a lot of time out here in the next few months.
