What You Need to Think About When Redecorating a Room 1

Redecorating a room can be a fantastic undertaking, and can help you turn a space from drab to fab in the blink of an eye. However, you do need to make sure that you are going about the renovation in just the right way. Here are some things that you might not have thought about when trying to pull off a room rejuvenation.

Amount of Supplies

You need to make sure that you have the right number of supplies for the room. You can use a laminate flooring calculator to discover how much you need to buy, you can measure up the walls for wallpaper, and you can try to work out the volume of paint you require.

Whatever you do, you need to ensure that you have adequate supplies as you don’t want to run out halfway through! Never buy exactly what you need as you will always need a few extras. Let’s take that laminate flooring as an example, the laminate flooring calculator will tell you what you need to buy. If you just attempt to make a purchase based on the area of your floor, you are not going to get enough.

Part of the beauty of laminate flooring comes from lining up the planks in different ways and this often requires you to cut the planks to different lengths. Though there might be some that you can reuse later in the pattern, there will also be others that you can’t make use of. Don’t end up with a heap of unusable wood and floor that needs to be filled – purchase the right amount first time!

Furniture Storage

If you have the luxury of getting into a property and painting it before any furniture arrives then you can ignore this step. However, if you are thinking about redecorating a room in a home that you have lived in for a while, chances are that this room will be packed with furniture and belongings that simply can’t vanish just because you want to redecorate.

You need to think carefully about where you are going to store these items of furniture. It might be easy to pack up some things and move smaller items to a different room then pull the larger items to the centre of the room. This is a great option if you intend to focus on the walls.

However, it obviously does not work if you want to replace the floors, like in the laminate flooring scenario we mentioned above. In this case, you are going to have to fully empty the room and find space for all of your furniture in the rest of your home, potentially meaning that some pretty large pieces could block up other rooms or your hall.

Time

How much time have you got for the project, or how much time are you willing to devote to it? If you have taken time off work or out of your usual schedule, you need to make sure that you pace yourself correctly so that your project comes in on time and to the standard that you wish to see.

If you are working on the project around your usual working hours, this is very different and can be hard to balance. Not everyone wants to come home from work and get started on their WIP after a long day at work.

Stretching out a project in this way can take a lot more of your time, but it can mean that you can approach it at a speed that you are comfortable with. Just make sure that you do commit to decorating so that you don’t end up with your furniture and possessions scattered for months!

These are three key areas you need to consider when making plans to redecorate. Unfortunately, it can be far too easy to only visualize the end product and ignore the work that it will take to get there. You need to make sure that you are fully aware of the work that it will take to deliver the room that you have envisioned, but doing so could give you a space that you are always immensely proud of.
