Typically, shopping when you’re in school is much harder than when you’re at home. While at home, there’s a larger kitchen, in the dorm, you make do with a small kitchen which most times is shared.

It gets hard to decide what you want to buy when you’re alone because there is so much to choose from. You need a functional grocery shopping list that allows you to get all the nutrients you need without necessarily eating boring food. 

When you have a dorm grocery list, shopping becomes easier. You get to have a reference to use each time you need to shop. Here is a list of essentials every college student needs. 1. Rice cakes 

Rice cakes and fluffy and flavored essentials that are a staple food for most college students, the best part is they’re perfect for topping with a wide variety of choices. You can also choose to eat them plain. 

When you have a class soon and have no idea what to eat, you can easily eat rice cakes because they keep you full for longer. They’re also quite healthy and are low in calories. 

2. Nut Butters

This is another staple for college students that you can eat plain or with something else. You can eat nut butter as a snack or spread it on toast. If you’re allergic to peanuts, then you should try cashew butter or almond butter. These other options are just as tasty, and they provide you with the same nutrients package.

3. Popcorn 

You heard that right! You should definitely get popcorn. If you have a microwave, get the kernels and make your own popcorn. These are suitable for all those movie nights you cuddle up in your dorm. 

Nothing goes together better than Netflix and popcorn. Even though you’re in school to study, there’s nothing wrong with a little entertainment.

4. Protein/Snack bars 

We all need proteins for a balanced diet. Snack bars are instant proteins that give you the energy you need to face the day. They’re easily digestible and are quite affordable. Carry a few with you in case you don’t get time to get food before the next class. 

5. Cereal

Cereal is perfect for mornings when you need a healthy meal to get you through the day. There are so many cereals you can choose from. If you still don’t have a favorite, try different cereals until you find what you like. 

6. Chocolate 

Contary to popular belief, chocolate is quite healthy. Chocolate will get you through a rough day when you feel disappointed or like a failure. Since you can’t always depend on other people to get you chocolate, you should stock them in the dorm for when you need happy food. 

7. Chips & Pretzels

Finally, your grocery list should have Chips and Pretzels. If you crave something salty, chips are your go-to snack. Nothing can replace the joy of feeling the crunchiness against your teeth as the salt gets to your taste buds. 

If you have a fridge, you should get tortilla chips and keep them chill. Keep bags of your favorite chips in the bags you carry when you go to school. This way, you can always have something to munch on when you get cravings.
