I love a good lighting update, as it’s really one of the foundational pieces of a space. However, it can be so hard to convince yourself as a renter to make that investment in a hardwired piece you know might be tricky to uninstall in a few years, or months, when you move. Renting also means that you’ve got to make any changes easy to reverse for the next inhabitant, which adds an extra little layer of challenge. One of my favorite fixes is adding ambient lighting, whether it’s a table or floor lamp — or a chic plug-in wall sconce. While sconces are harder to install for renters, they provide built-in light that gives a polished look to your room and provide light where you can’t necessarily use table or floor space for a lamp. They look great framing art, beside the bed (especially if you can’t fit a large nightstand), above the sofa, or even built into your bookshelves. See them all on the Apartments.com blog below!
