On Lake Martin in Alabama – one of the largest man-made lakes in the country – Susan Ferrier brought her signature edgy elegance to a contemporary home completely reimagined by architect David Baker. While the original house was outdated, the property was a prime location, situated above the lake with incredible views of the water. The modern style of the house provided the perfect opportunity to make a modern statement with floor-to-ceiling windows bringing the views to almost every room. I love the dramatic contrast between the light-filled spaces on the back of the house and the memorable entry above, wrapped in Sherwin Williams ‘Sealskin’ paint. The contrast of light and dark, sleek and organic, bring an exciting energy to this lake house. See the rest of the rooms below!
One of Ferrier’s favorite tricks is to use drapery as soft ‘walls’ in a room, and she uses it perfectly in this master bedroom to act as a sort of modern canopy for the bed, demarcating the central area in the room to create luxurious layers of privacy. I also love the oversized chandelier in here, with teardrop crystals to diffuse the light.
How do you like the modern take on lakeside style in this Lake Martin house?
