Steve McKenzie’s was a recent find for me, and I can’t believe I only discovered this year! Tucked into West Midtown, it’s truly one of the best home stores in Atlanta, but the best part of the discovering this store was getting to know the duo behind the shop. Steve and Jill McKenzie are avid design lovers and vibrant members of Atlanta’s design community, often hosting events in the store for artists and designers in the area or passing through. Of the pieces in the store, they say “We don’t sell anything we wouldn’t use in our own home!” Steve is a painter, and his own line of fabrics can be found on upholstery and pillows throughout the vignettes in their store. Besides running the shop, the duo also works on residential design projects, translating their design style to clients’ homes (see their latest feature in Atlanta Magazine’s next issue of HOME)! Take a tour of the store below, and shop their online selection on their website (like Eddie Ross’s new book shown below).
Steve’s fabric collection uses large, playful brushstrokes and large-scale patterns with floral motifs. I love the light, airy quality to the designs and the muted pastel colorways that they currently come in, but you can also special order the fabrics in any color. Mandy of Waiting on Martha used the Loop fabric in black – which had never been printed before – in her 2015 One Room Challenge!
I’ll be collaborating with the McKenzie’s this summer with home and entertaining inspiration straight from their beautiful product selection. Did you see anything in the store that caught your eye?
This post is sponsored by Steve McKenzie’s, but all text, images, and opinions are all my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that keep Thou Swell running!
