Things are always changing in our house (anyone else compulsively rearrange their furniture?!) and the living room has changed over the two+ years since I gave it a makeover for the fall One Room Challenge. The biggest change is one I’ve been wanting to make for over a year – adding a light, natural fiber rug to the room. Not only did the room need something to bring together the seating arrangement but it also provides a soft layer to the room that lightens the space with its pale color. It makes a traditional pairing with the hide rug and softens the room as well. I spent a while looking for a rug with a beige binding and a lighter color (with a low price) and finally settled on Safavieh’s Marcus area rug. Of course with a new rug I needed the perfect rug pad, so I looked through RugPadUSA‘s selection of pads engineered to last long and be used with different types of flooring and rug types. I chose the Super Lock Natural rug pad, their best gripping rug pad made with natural rubber that won’t stain, strip, or stick to floors, and it has a subtle cushion that makes the new rug a little extra comfortable. See what else changed in the living room below!
Our new rug pad is made with over a pound of natural rubber per square yard, which means it’s denser and heavier than comparable latex and PVC pads and has been designed to overcome problems associated with low-quality padding such as floor scratching, stripping and staining. Is it crazy that I love our new rug pad almost as much as the new rug itself? I love how light the room feels now – although the rug wasn’t the only change that helped brighten things up!
Although I love our antique leather armchairs that you saw last time I shared the living room on TS, I swapped these chairs with the Marie armchairs from our dining room makeover for lighter upholstery and a more solid silhouette that would complement our chaise better. I love how they look with our pretty blue velvet lumbar cushions!
The other changes in the space include the black and white print from my bedroom (beautifully framed in the Cairo frame by Framebridge) above the fireplace and our new lucite coffee table (now on sale!) for a lighter touch in the middle of the room.
Our changes felt very summer appropriate… Have you made any summer decor refreshes around your home?
