SWELL SHOPPING: MODERN ECLECTIC LIVING ROOM

Modern eclectic living room with white daybed and gold bunching tables via @thouswellblog(via Nuevo Estilo, design by Pepe Leal)

When it comes to the modern eclectic look, I’ve found the Spanish really do it very well. The balance of new and old, funky and traditional, neutral and pops of color, is demonstrated so well in many of the rooms and homes I’ve shared here on Thou Swell. From this home in Madrid to this ‘evergreen’ living room, there’s a bold modern mix in these spaces that defies the boundaries of set styles. I love how this living room uses strong contrasts to ground the room, from the dark armoire to the black lamb fur pillow. A graphic message livens the space, while the rich green velvet warms the textiles on the daybed. Of course I’m loving the daybed look (after all it’s one of my favorite trends this year), and the grouping of side tables is a clever substitute for a single coffee table in this space, since it’s not confined by armchairs or other seating on either side. With such dark wood floors, the pale stitched hide rug provides the perfect light foundation for the seating area, and I also dig the grand architecture of the room. It’s really one of the first clues of a European interior – fabulous architecture to start with! Continue reading to find my picks for recreating this look below.

I’m absolutely in love with the armoire I found for this design board – and it’s an incredible steal for only $750 on Chairish! What’s your favorite piece in the design?
